Diagnosable remotely - YES
Fixable remotely - NO
If a customer gets in touch reporting a leak, the first thing to ascertain is where is the leak. If the leak is coming from holes in the isolator (eg the seal quench holes), the only possible cause is a Plunger Seal failure.
This will very rarely be fixable by a customer themselves and will need to be a site visit from an engineer. This is the only possible cause of this problem, so as long as confirmation has been received that the leak is from the isolator, a diagnosis visit it not necessary.
Solution: Replace the Plunger Seal
Parts required to fix are:
- Plunger seal (18.4000)
- Back-up ring (18.4010)
- Plunger bearing (18.4221) - hydraulic machines only (M110P, EH, LM20)
- Face seal assembly (18.4500) - pneumatic machines only (M110Y, L, LM10)
Customer should order these parts ahead of the site visit. Analytik carries stock of these, so if the visit is required urgently, stock can be used and replaced when the customer-ordered parts arrive.
Process on site:
- Disconnect the high-pressure lines from the pump head.
- Remove the pump head (check valve can stay installed).
- Loosen and remove the seal retainer using the pin-spanner.
- Remove the old plunger seal and back-up ring by hydraulic pressure (using plastic rod and plugging PH outlet).
- Remove the old bearing.
- Install new bearing, back-up ring and plunger seal (check correct orientation!).
- Reinstall everything and run a test using water/solvent.
