We have encountered an instance with a newly built PC where the CPS software installed correctly and operated the instrument correctly, but the voltage readings from the LSD varied wildly and have very high drift values (1-2 decimal place; the "normal" values are at the 4th or 5th decimal place).
We identified this issue as coming from a faulty serial port connection/board on one PC.
As CPS PCs are not networked, we were unable to check for driver updates for the serial port to determine whether this was a hardware or software issue.
In this instance, the issue was resolved by connecting the CPS to one of the PCs USB connections via aserial to USB adaptor (https://www.emeraldm3d.com/easy-sync-usb-to-serial-adapter.html - recommended model, requires drivers stored on CPS flash drive)
