Symptoms:

M110-EH plunger is not moving, no product coming out of outlet.

Possible Causes:

  • Blocked chamber
  • Limit switch stall
  • Loss of priming
  • Incorrect startup sequence
  • Combination of the above

Troubleshooting:

(easiest to hardest tasks)

  1. Startup Sequence: Are the electrical and compressed air supplies on and has the machine been started in the correct order?
    1. Electrical isolator
    2. Compressed air supply and all control valves and regulators, 5 bar pressure at instrument regulator
    3. E-stop released
    4. Motor power on
    5. Intensifier on (and prim pump head)
  2. Loss of prime: If air enters the pump head this can cause a reduction in flow or completely stop it, it can also reduce the pressure in the efficiency of the process. This is because air is a compressible fluid, and the process liquid suspensions are not. Re-prime the pump head to remove the air from the pump head and piping.
    • Follow the appropriate priming procedure for your model M110EH. Usually this is done with the process pressure set to the minimum and the priming valve open, or inlet check valve depressed, until no more bubbles escape from the prime/check valve.
  3. Blocked Chamber: It is not uncommon for large particles to get jammed into the chamber at the narrowest point, or for a previous user to forget to thoroughly clean out the process piping after running the instrument. In most cases this can be fixed by reversing the orientation of the chambers and back-flushing them at maximum pressure to force out the offending particles or agglomerations.
    • Follow instructions for Blocked Chamber
  4. Limit Switch Stall: It is possible for the M110EH to be stopped with the cylinder in an intermediate position between the extend and retract limit switches. With neither switch activated, there is no directional input for the cylinder when the intensifier is activated and it will not move. To resolve this one of the switches must be manually activated:
    1. Remove top cover of M110EH
    2. Using a screwdriver or similar long tool, press one of the limit switches to restart the cylinder motion
    3. If this becomes a regular problem, competent engineers can adjust the rest position of the limit switches (ONLY DO SO WHILE MACHINE IS POWERED DOWN AND SAFE) or Analytik engineers can adjust during the next service visit.
  5. Combination issues:
    • Instrument primes but does not cycle? blocked chamber
    • Instrument powered but does not prime? Try priming while activating limit switch
